Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company wants to help you prepare for the unexpected!

Are you prepared to provide your insurance company a complete inventory of your personal possessions in case you have a claim? If not, take a few minutes to click on the links below. Print out an inventory form for each room in your household. Complete the forms and store them in a safe deposit box or other secure place outside your home. Then when it comes time to replace losses due to theft or fire, you'll have an accurate log of your possessions.

Try to be as thorough as you can. Be certain to check the contents of closets, storage spaces and other areas you may not access very often. Doing a complete inventory is very important.

Also as you fill out this inventory, take special care when recording your electronic equipment and jewelry. These may be among your most valuable items and are often the target of theft. Wherever you can, list the serial numbers. If your valuables are ever recovered, you can prove ownership more easily if you can identify them by number.

To supplement this inventory, make a videotape or take photographs of each room in your home. These visual records can help you when it comes to describing your belongings in detail, and they may also help police recover your property. Store the photographs/videotape with your inventory tables. Retain invoices, receipts and owners manuals as additional support for ownership and the cost submitted.

As you accumulate (or discard) property, remember to keep this inventory up-to-date

You may find that the value of your property is much greater than you thought. If so, you may want to talk with your Farm Bureau agent to make sure you have adequate coverage.
